What is Unaccompanied Minor Service?

Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be unaccompanied minors. Most airlines provide a service to assist these children from their point of departure to their final destination.

What age does my child have to be to qualify as an Unaccompanied Minor?

The service is mandatory for children ages 5-14 traveling without an adult who is at least 18 years old.

Children under 5 years of age are not allowed to travel unless accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old.

What are the fees associated with this service?

  • Children ages 5-7 on a direct flight: $60 each way
  • Children ages 5-7 on a flight with connections: not permitted
  • Children ages 8-14 on a direct flight: $60 each way
  • Children ages 8-14 on a flight with connections: $90 each way

Are there any flight restrictions?

  • Unaccompanied minors between 5 and 7 years old will only be accepted on direct flights.
  • Unaccompanied minors between 8 and 14 years old can travel on direct flights and connecting flights with, or without, a plane change.
  • Minors between 15 and 17 years old can travel with any itinerary as Meet and Assist passengers.
  • Minors undergoing medical treatment will not be accepted for the Children Traveling Alone service.

Copa Airlines needs the following information in order to accept children traveling alone. The best moment to give this information is when making the reservations:

  • Name and kinship of the person bringing the child to the airport.
  • Home phone number and address of this person.
  • Name and kinship of the person that will receive the child.
  • Home and business phone numbers and home address of this person.

When the child arrives at his/her destination, the person meeting the child has to present proper identification to ensure that he/she is the person on the form attached to the child's ticket jacket.
