Do I need to reserve a seat for my infant?

Children up to two years old (24 months), are not required to have their own seat as these children may sit on an adult's lap. Only one lap child is allowed per adult. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under two years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for the second infant. Infants under 2 sitting on their parent's lap will be charged a service fee of €15 per leg (plus 19% VAT on flights within Germany). You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.

How much does it cost to reserve a seat for an infant?

Children from ages 2 to 11, as well as infants under 2 who travel in a child's seat in their own seat, get a reduction equal to a third of the net fare of the flight at the time of booking. Beware, this offer only applies to new bookings made online, to the Call Centre, or at Airport Sales and does not include taxes, charges and passenger-related fees. Not included are €19,99 all-in tickets, Blind Booking flights and flex fares. Changes to bookings are only possible by calling the Call Centre.

What kind of child seats are allowed?

The child restraint device must have a seal from the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV). Germanwings suggests:

  • Maxi Cosi Mico, Maxi Miliaan B.V., ID 8011000571
  • Maxi Cosi Citi, Dorel Netherlands, ID 8811410300
  • Luftikid Duo, Luftikid OHG, ID 7011000571
  • Römer King Plus, Britax Römer.

What if my child turns two on the trip; will I have to buy a ticket for the return flight?

Yes, a ticket will have to be purchased for any flight on which the infant will be over two years old.

What infant amenities are available on the aircraft I'll be flying (i.e. bassinets)?

If it is present, clicking on it will tell you what infant services are available on that airplane. If you do not see it, infant amenities are not offered on that aircraft. You can always contact Germanwings for more information.

Can I sit in the exit row with my infant?

Neither lap children nor infants in car seats are not allowed in an exit row. In fact, all passengers in an exit row must be at least 15 years of age. In addition, infant seats are not allowed in the row directly in front of or directly behind an exit.
